We present a summary on the research of stellar formation in low surface brightness disk galaxies (LSBGs), as well as some features that could negatively impact on these processes. We briefly discuss possible scenarios explaining why these galaxies are currently not or marginally forming stars and what factors could have determined this through their evolution. We focus on one of the most conspicous cases: Malin 1. We show new data with evidence that this galaxy do have very peculiar features that make it a keystone for the research on the evolution of these elusive kind of galaxies.
