The Arecibo Observatory is recognized as one of the most important national centers for research in radio astronomy, planetary radar, and terrestrial aeronomy. With its 305m (1000ft) diameter dish constructed in 1963, it continuously provides valuable data for the scientific community and the world. The Angel Ramos Foundation Science and Visitor Center receives about 100,000 visitors a year.
