The Gemini Observatory consists of twin 8.1-meter diameter optical/infrared telescopes located on Mauna Kea in Hawai'i and Cerro Pachón in Chile. Gemini offers a variety of imaging and spectroscopic facility instruments with adaptive optics at both sites and an active visiting instrument program. The range of observing modes includes; queue, classical, large and long programs, fast turnaround (starting in 2015A), priority visitor, and student visits.

Gemini is operated by a partnership of six countries: the United States, Canada, Brazil, Australia Argentina, and Chile. Astronomers are allocated telescope time in proportion to each partner's financial stake.
