The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) is the top-ranked large-scale ground-based project for the next decade as recommended by the US NRC's Astro2010 Decadal Survey. LSST received its federal construction start in August of 2014 and will be in full science operations by 2022.

LSST will scan the sky for 10 years, producing a petabyte-scale, non-proprietary database designed to address the most pressing questions in astronomy and physics, while driving advances in big-data science and computing.
